John C. Thies

John C. Thies of Council Bluffs passed away August 28, 2012 at his home. He was born March 16, 1931 in Iowa City, Iowa to the late John & Redella Mae (Beattie) Thies. John had retired in 1996 as the Executive Director of the Omaha Education Association and he was a faithful member of First Christian Church. He had lived in the residences at Risen Son Christian Village and was a member of the Curmudgeon Club there. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mavis J. Thies; daughter, Tamara Jo Boege; sister, Rose Joan Butz. John is survived by his sons, Tim J. (Susan) Thies and Todd C. Thies; grandsons, Joshua and Jacob; special friends, Curtis and Mary Coats and their children, Elisabeth and Rahila; Lavon Nihsen. Visitation is Thursday 6-8PM at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Private family burial will be Friday morning at Ridgewood Cemetery. Memorial service will be Friday 11AM at the funeral home followed by a reception in the community room at Hoy-Kilnoski. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to First Christian Church or Risen Son Christian Village.
