John Chafe

September 5, 1950 — July 30, 2025

John Phillip Chafe, age 74, passed away peacefully at home July 30, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and music that will be cherished by all who knew him. John was a pillar of strength and a source of endless joy, always ready with a joke or a song to brighten the day. His greatest passion was his family, and he poured his heart into creating a beautiful life for them.

John was a talented musician who taught himself to play guitar. He loved writing and performing his own songs whenever he could. Whether performing for crowds at coffee shops or playing for his family, his music was a reflection of his big heart and soul. John also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing tennis, riding his motorcycle, playing chess, doing jumble words, among many other activities.

John's ability to tell a captivating story, his sense of humor and his welcoming nature made him the life of every gathering. His infectious smile and generous heart were a gift to everyone around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the stories we share, the songs we sing, the jokes we tell and the love we continue to have for one another. To know John was to love him.

He leaves behind a loving family including his wife Mylene, of 42 years, and daughters Trea, Brittanie, and Alyssa.

He is preceded in death by his parents Laurence and Nellie Chafe, brothers Joseph, James, Robert, and his sister Helene (Chafe) Frost. Also preceded in death by his cherished in-laws, Raymond and Bonnie Grauf.

A celebration of John's life will be held on his 75th birthday, September 5th from 4-7 p.m. with moments of reflection at 5:30 p.m. Details to be shared privately. Please reach out to the family for more information at 712-310-0477.
