John Julian Hernandez

John Julian Hernandez, age 82, passed away peacefully at his home on August 19, 2026.

He was born August 18, 1944, to the late John and Irene (Rodriguez) Hernandez in Grand Island, NE. John was a self-employed contractor for many years. He found great pride in coaching boxers, volunteer baseball coaching and various other hobbies, such as building and flying RC airplanes, archery,building custom furniture, and picture frames. In his final days, John left his family with a simple reminder that they will carry forever; "remember the good times."

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Debi Ortega and Marie Barreda; sister, Guadalupe "Nancy" Hernandez; brother, Jesse Hernandez.

John is survived by his wife, Donna Hernandez; Children, Orville "Orie" Mckee, John "Pops" Hernandez, Anita Hernandez (Martin); grandchildren, Monique Barreda, Josh Barreda, Desi Barnes, Jasmine Barreda, Loretta Mckee, John Hernandez III, Jesse Hernandez, Lyssa Hernandez, Javi Hernandez, Jessica Ortega and Erica Ortega, a plethora of nieces and nephews as well as a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Friday, August 28, 2026. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Friday, August 28, 2026. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Omaha with a luncheon immediately following back at the Funeral Home. The family will direct memorials.
