Jorge Garcia-Padial

February 18, 1943 — October 11, 2025

Loving husband, caring father and grandfather, partner, fishing buddy, orchid enthusiast, mentor, and friend who served the Council Bluffs community, as a dedicated physician, for more than 25 years.

Abu, as we affectionately called him, peacefully passed away on October 11, 2025 at his home in Council Bluffs, Iowa, surrounded by his family. He was born in Puerto Rico on February 18, 1943 and married his childhood friend, Margie, on her birthday in 1966. They had 3 children.

Jorge and Margie moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1986 where they quickly became active and supportive members of the community. He was an OB/GYN and practiced medicine at both major community hospitals in Council Bluffs where he delivered more than 3,000 babies, supported women's health issues, was a pioneer and wrote a textbook on a new medical procedure, training thousands of doctors worldwide.

Jorge loved football and fishing. His passion for fishing took him on journeys to fish for fresh and saltwater fish all over the world, but most importantly, allowed him to develop great friendships rooted in a common interest. These friendships were his most treasured and were present in his life until the end.

Jorge survived Margie, who passed away on May 20, 2021, but after her passing found love and companionship in his partner, Maria Fernandez, a friend of more than 30 years. Maria accompanied him along with his family through the very end.

Jorge is survived by his children and spouses, Margarita Garcia and Lyle Kirkland, Maria Elena and Craig Peterman and Jorge Jose and Micki Garcia; his grandchildren, Kyara and fiancé Marcus, Jameson, Leia and husband Matthew, Jacob, Zoe, Charlie, Andrew, and Lilly; and his sister Ana Belén.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 25th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Council Bluffs. Interment will be at a later date in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

In lieu of flowers, you may send a donation to the Greater Omaha Orchid Society or to the University of Nebraska Medical Center-Buffett Cancer Center.
