Joseph Scott Battig

Feb 28, 2000 — Jun 28, 2026

Joseph Scott Battig ("Joe"), age 26, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away suddenly as the result of a tragic accident on June 28, 2026.

Born on February 28, 2000, in Pensacola, Florida, Joe brought light, laughter, and kindness into the lives of everyone who knew him. He graduated from Lewis Central High School in 2018 and was proud to have earned the rank of Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts of America, an accomplishment that reflected his dedication, perseverance, and character from a young age.

Joe worked as a ramp agent for Southwest Airlines in Omaha, where he was a valued member of the Southwest family. He took pride in his work and enjoyed the friendships he built with his coworkers.

Joe loved being outdoors, whether he was exploring nature, spending time with friends, or simply enjoying the fresh air. He never missed an opportunity to game with his friends, and his infectious laugh could brighten even the hardest day. Those who knew him often said that just hearing him laugh made them happy.

One of the greatest joys of Joe's life was his beloved husky, Lykos. Their bond was unmistakable, and the love they shared was evident to everyone fortunate enough to know them.

More than anything, Joe loved people. He genuinely cared about his family and friends and had a remarkable way of making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and accepted. Friends and loved ones remember him as funny, sweet, and free-spirited-a person who always seemed to go with the flow and whose sense of humor could make anyone smile. He was a big brother to some, a trusted and fiercely loyal friend to all, and someone whose kindness left a lasting impression. Many have described him as one of the best people they ever knew, a wonderful friend whose generosity, compassion, and unwavering loyalty will never be forgotten.

Joe was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Joseph "Jay" Long and Richard "Dick" Battig and his first doggo love, Buckshot.

He is survived by his loving parents, Kelley and James "Jim" Battig; his sister, Amberley Cradit and her husband, Michael; his cherished nephews, Emery and Micah; his beloved husky, Lykos; his grandmother, Peggy Battig; his grandparents, Jeanne and Robert "Bob" Butler; his aunts and uncles, John and Kim Battig, Richard and Renee Battig, Kim and Chris Brenchley, and Conrad and Alice Butler; along with many cousins, extended family members, countless friends, and his Southwest Airlines family, all of whom will miss him dearly.

An open house celebration of Joe's life will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2026, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at The Warehouse, 1414 W. Broadway, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joe's memory. Contributions will be collected and held by the family, who will determine a meaningful organization or organizations to receive the donations at a later date.
