Julie Marie Powell was born at Council Bluffs Sisters of Mercy Hospital to the late David Leonard Powell and Marjorie Ann (Knudsen) Powell on June 17, 1960. She was the first of three beloved daughters. Julie was a proud member of the Abraham Lincoln of 1978, "The Class With Class". She went on to receive a diploma in Auto Parts Specialist in August 1979 from IWCC. Julie also worked at Wright & Wilhelmy, the University of Nebraska Omaha at the Information Desk, and eventually worked for Professional Research Consultants Inc. as a surveyor.
Julie faced many health issues throughout her life, starting within the first year of her life, though you would rarely know about these things as she would rather talk about anything but her health. And speaking of talking, could the girl talk! With a mind that could absorb like a sponge, she could regurgitate information on a wide and varied range of subjects. Our mom was worried about her as a young child because she didn't start talking until a little late but once she started talking, she never stopped. Even when her metastatic breast cancer caused her tongue to stop working, she would still talk a blue streak, it just made it more challenging to follow what she was talking about.
If Julie found something that intrigued or interested her, she was all in. A lover of books, animals (especially cats), history, Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), museums, The Beatles, Sci-Fi and on and on. She proudly served as a guide at the Squirrel Cage Jail as a member of the Council Bluffs Historical Society. More recently, she relished being a part of the Lions Club.
In addition to her parents (whom she joined in Heaven on their 70th wedding anniversary), she is proceeded in death by her beloved step-dad, Jerry L. McIntosh, maternal & paternal grandparents, aunts, uncles and beloved other relatives and dear friends and her fur baby, Sebastian.
She is survived by sisters Rhonda (Jim) Kilday, Lisa (Mark) Elliott, niece Jaime (Nathanial) Harden, nephews Alexander (Courtney) Elliott, Kyle Elliott, three great nieces and one great nephew.
For those with the SCA or just love Renaissance Faires, please feel free to come dressed in garb.
A reception in her honor will take place in the community room at the Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with special remarks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025.
