Karen Krohn Mehsling joined her parents in Heaven on December 1, 2023 at her home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was born to William and Lillie (Dethlefs) Krohn on June 11, 1941 on the Henry Krohn farm northeast of Avoca, Iowa in Fairview Township.

Karen attended a one-room school, Monroe #9, Northeast of Avoca, Iowa, through first grade. The family then moved to a farm six miles north of Atlantic, Iowa. She attended a one-room school, Pymosa #2, through eighth grade. She graduated from Atlantic High in 1959.

In 1959 she started work as an IBM key punch operator at the Woodman of the World Building in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1962 she went to work for Blue Cross Blue Shield in Omaha, Nebraska as a key punch operator, becoming a supervisor for several years.

She married the love of her life Ronald R. Mehsling on April 24, 1965 at St. Francis Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They live in Council Bluffs, where they raised their two children, Brad and Michelle, and were married 58 years. Karen was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Karen was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother. Loved to tend to her large garden and multiple flower gardens that were often filled with hydrangeas, hibiscus plants and many other colorful annuals. You would often find her listening to country music but her two loves were Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. Karen always had a dog for companionship.

For several years she enjoyed coordinating the Craft Shows for Queen of Apostles Church. She kept busy running Brad to scouts and Michelle to dance lessons.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lillie (Dethlefs) Krohn; sister and brother-in-law, Nadine and Darrell Dreager.

Karen is survived by her husband, Ronald Mehsling; son, Brad (Anita) Mehsling of Gretna, Nebraska; daughter, Michelle (Jim) Meyer of Howell, Michigan; grandchildren: Alicia (Isaiah) Grace of Omaha, Nebraska, Tayler (Sousa) Mehsling of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Whitney (Jonah) Mehsling of Aurora, Colorado, Payton Mehsling of Omaha, Nebraska, Kevin (Kaleigh) Harkins of Hastings, Nebraska, Grace Harkins of Omaha, Nebraska, Emily Harkins of Omaha, Nebraska, Kaitlyn Meyer and William Meyer of Howell, Michigan; great-grandchildren: Joslyn Grace, Kobe Bowman, Karter Bowman, Kemma Grace, and Kenley Grace; niece, Kimberly (Rick) Perkins of Omaha, Nebraska; nephew, Mark (Lori) Dreager of Council Bluffs, Iowa and their children, Rebecca Mahlberg and Nathan Dreager of Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Funeral service is at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be during the hour prior to the service. Interment is in Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to St. Peter's Catholic Church or Midlands Humane Society. Interment is in the Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, Iowa.
