Kathryn Jacobs

December 22, 1940 — February 18, 2024

Kathryn G. Jacobs, age 83, passed away peacefully at Bethany Lutheran Home February 18, 2024.

Kathy Jacobs was born December 22, 1940 in Nebraska City in 1940 to Bill & Ruth (Sheldon) Phillips. She grew up in a small town, Henderson, IA, close to family and friends. As a teenager she moved to Council Bluffs and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1959.

After high school Kathy married Tom Jacobs and they had 4 children together - Randy, Greg, Sara & Mike. She also had 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She loved to spend time with her kids and grandkids and was devoted to all of them. She will always be remembered by her family for her warm smile and loving nature.

Kathy was a cheerful and lively person who also enjoyed gardening, spending time with family & friends and traveling. She particularly enjoyed traveling to see family in Florida where she loved to spend her days enjoying the outdoors and the beach. She also loved to grow flowers and vegetables in her backyard and took pride in her roses as well as her tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers which she liked to share with neighbors and friends. Kathy was also a fan of Elvis Presley and truly enjoyed attending concerts and shows of Elvis impersonators with her closest friends.

Kathy spent most of her working life at Creighton University where she retired from the student financial aid department. She enjoyed the work as it kept her involved in the campus community and working with the many young people who would come and go over the years. It also kept her close to her favorite basketball team the Creighton Bluejays. A Bluejay basketball game was one of the few shows that could pull her away from watching one of her favorite westerns on T.V.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Randy Jacobs.

Kathryn is survived by her children, Greg (Sheila) Jacobs, Sara Jacobs, Mike (Julie) Jacobs; sisters, Nancy Flaherty and Fran Loeb; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

Memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Thursday, February 22, 2024. The family will direct memorials.
