Kathleen "Kathy" Burse, age 79, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026. She was born on October 26, 1946, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Jeremiah and Mary (Murphy).

Kathy was a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School. In 1996, she married, Paul, and together they lived in Council Bluffs.

Above all, Kathy was a devoted and loving mother whose kindness, genuine spirit, and forgiving heart touched everyone who knew her. She had a remarkable gift for making others feel welcome and cared for. An exceptional cook, Kathy was known for preparing delicious meals that brought family and friends together around the table, creating countless cherished memories.

Kathy dedicated many years of service to Hy-Vee in Council Bluffs, where she was known for her warm smile, strong work ethic, and friendly personality.

Her faith was the foundation of her life. Kathy was a faithful member of Greater New Hope Church for more than 40 years and remained an active part of her church family until her health no longer allowed her to participate. She loved Jesus deeply and lived her faith through compassion, generosity, and service to others.

Kathy especially treasured the time she spent with her beloved granddaughter, Layla, who brought her immeasurable joy. Whether sharing a meal, a conversation, or simply being together, those moments were among Kathy's greatest blessings.

Kathy will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her gentle and forgiving nature, her strong faith, and the countless lives she blessed with her kindness. Her legacy of love and grace will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Christopher McMullen; brothers, Michael Murphy, Steven Chambers, and Jeffrey Chambers.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Paul Burse; children, Todd McMullen, Erin Woods, Megan Spencer, Olivia Burse; 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Sheila (Tim) Theophilopoulos, Debbie (Patrick) Vossen; brother, Lynn Chambers; best friend, Sarah Sanders; many nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be held 6:00 - 8:00 pm Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am at Greater New Hope Baptist Church on Friday, July 10, 2026. Final resting place at Mt Hope Cemetery, Omaha, Nebraska.
