Leopoldo Huerta Mendoza, age 89, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025.
He was born September 24, 1935, to the late Pascual and Dolores Mendoza in Mexico. Leopoldo retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 42 years and was a member of Saint Peter's Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Leopoldo Jr.; brothers, Gonzalo and Pascual Mendoza; sister Connie Owens; son-in-law, Frank Wolfe.
Leopoldo is survived by his wife of 65 years, Manuela Mendoza; children, Estela (Patrick) Ebner, Ester Greelis, Anita Wolfe, Amelia "Amie" (James) Andersen, and Erlinda (Ramon) Mora; siblings, Jesus (Janice) Mendoza, Soledad Tamayo, Carmela Cordova, Maria Stockton, Arturo (Helen) Mendoza, Cristina (Joe) Blakely, Santiago (Sandy) Mendoza, and Jose (Consuelo) Mendoza; grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins; a host of other family and friends.
Rosary recitation will be held at 4:30 PM followed by visitation until 6:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM at Saint Peter's Catholic Church in Council Bluffs on Thursday, July 17, 2025. Interment will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery. The family will direct memorials.
