Marjorie Carson

February 15, 1933 — May 14, 2024

The comedy world lost a giant. Marjorie (Hunter) Carson was born on February 15, 1933, and closed her show on May 14, 2024 at 91 years old. Born in Bartlett, Iowa to Robert and Hazel (Greenwood) Hunter. Thurman, Iowa is where she was raised, graduating from Thurman High School in 1950. She moved to Omaha and worked for Mutual of Omaha for a year before attending Peru State Teachers College for a year before going to New Orleans for a new audience and new material. She then returned to Omaha and worked in Revenue Accounting at Union Pacific Railroad for 42 years where she bullied her coworkers and smoked at her desk. In 1994, she joined the Key Real Estate team and performed weekly on the tour bus for another 20 years, retiring at 81 years old.

In 1953, she married a short man, Jerry Carson, who preceded her in death in 2016. They decided that the world deserved 3 fabulous offspring (this is our story too!): Amy (Ed) Thompson, Trisha (Lee) Gillespie, Colleen (Frank) Brabec and bonus son, Pat Barton. They really weren't that funny, so they reproduced and created a future generation of hilarity. Grandchildren: Rick Thompson, Sarah (Jennifer Weuve) Thompson, Jeff (Haley Vetick) Thompson, Emma Thompson, Pat (Rachel) Gillespie, Nolan (Jordyn) Gillespie, Carson Gillespie and Andy Brabec. Then, this group produced another generation of great-grandchildren: Hank Gillespie, Lainey Gillespie and Barritt Thompson.

Marge was also preceded in death by sister, Norma Edwards; brother, Jim Hunter; sisters-in-law, LeMae Dupuis, Donna Prince, Darlene Greenwood, and Barb Koory; brothers-in-law, Bob Carson, Bob Edwards, Jr., and Burke Greenwood; nephews, Bob Edwards III and Evan Edwards.

She is survived by siblings, Mark (Jerre) Hunter, Nini (Don) Schneider of St. Louis, Joe (Sue) Hunter, and Carol Martin. She loved her 34 nieces and nephews; 75 great-nieces and nephews and even great-great-nieces and nephews. (Not enough space to print all the names, as she requested.)

A lifetime member of the Community of Christ, serving in the priesthood, to make up for being a bully at UPRR. She blessed babies, performed baptism and was a crowd favorite at the pulpit. She served on many boards and President of NARBW, and a member of NARVE.

Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 23rd. Visitation 4:00 - 6:00 PM with a Memorial Service to follow at Community of Christ, 140 W Kanesville Blvd, Council Bluffs. Memorials will be directed to Community of Christ.
