Mark Andrew Blaney Sr.

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, fearless warrior of our family, Mark Andrew Blaney Sr. “Papoman“ age 73. Mark was born on November 15, 1952, to Shirold and Anne (Jacobsen) Blaney. Mark passed peacefully with his entire family by his side on July 1, 2026. Mark married his wife, Shirley, of 50 years on July 4, 1976. Mark proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. 

Mark loved spending time with his entire family, being outside, and tinkering in the garage. Going to car shows, listening to classic rock music, watching westerns, playing the guitar, and his biggest joy was supporting his family in all the activities his children and grandchildren were in. You can always count on him at any activity to have mints in his pocket, as we called them his pocket mints. 

Mark and Shirley have 3 children: Angela Blaney, Andreana Blaney, Mark Blaney Jr. (Julie), all of Council Bluffs. 5 Grandchildren who know him as Papoman: Michaela Blaney, Haley (Brock) Fry, Caleb (Abigail) Blaney, Mark Blaney III, Callie Blaney. Great-grandchildren: Colt Blaney, Thomas and Noah Fry, and one on the way. He also has many Furry Grand Babies: Cadence, Clarabelle, Duke, Daisy, and Phoenix

Mark is preceded in death by his sisters Denise Sallors and Norma Messersmith, along with many fur babies, and other friends and family. He is survived by his brother Brian Blaney and sister Janet (Dennis) Marley.

There will be a Celebration of his Life from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m on August 1, 2026 at Northwest Christian Church (714 Benson St, Council Bluffs, Iowa 51501).
