With heavy hearts and immense gratitude for a life so beautifully lived that we announce the peaceful passing of our mom, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary Jo (Green) Klein at the age of 82.
Born to the late Francis and Irene (O'Rourke) Green on March 19, 1943, in Council Bluffs Iowa. Mary Jo grew up in Neola and Avoca Iowa before moving back to Council Bluffs to attend Mount Loretto. Mary Jo went on to graduate from Mount Loretto in 1961 and remained close with her classmates for many years. After graduation she attended Radiology training at Mercy Hospital, and later met her beloved late husband, Darrell. They were married in 1964 and were blessed with two sons, Jeff and Todd.
Mary Jo began her career at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs before joining Dr.'s Gross, Iwerson, Klein and Kratochvil Orthopedics in Omaha, where she dedicated 35 years before retiring.
Mary Jo was a woman of deep faith who lived her life with kindness and grace. She treasured time with family and friends and found joy in every moment. Her gentle nature, humility, and care for others were at the heart of who she was. She was truly a kind soul who shared her love generously.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents; her father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Mary Ann (Schmitz) Klein; brothers Don (and wife Marni) and Leo Green; infant sister Susan; and sister-in-law Julie Green.
Mary Jo is survived by her sons, Jeff and wife Jo of Council Bluffs and Todd and wife Steph of Highlands Ranch, CO; grandchildren Jacque and husband Jared Knedler of Council Bluffs, Josh Klein of Scottsdale, AZ, Maddy Klein of Highlands Ranch, CO; great-granddaughter Josie Knedler; brothers Bob Green of Omaha, NE, Tom and wife Collette Green of Harlan, IA; sisters Theresa and husband Tom Scherer of Centennial CO, Geralyn and husband Arlan Christensen of Harlan, IA; sister-in-law Sandy Green of Omaha, NE; and a host of many other family members and friends.
Visitation/Vigil will be held from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral home in Council Bluffs on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church-Council Bluffs on Friday, December 12, 2025 with a luncheon immediately following the funeral service. Burial will then follow in Garner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Saint Albert Catholic Schools.
