Modest Y. Smith

Modest Y. Smith, age 86, passed away January 26, 2014. She was born April 5, 1927 to the late Claude & Ella Nora (Scofield) Rowland. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Smith; son, Steven Smith; brothers, Alfred, Lawrence, Charles and Rumell Smith; sister, Alice McTwiggan. Modest is survived by her children, Victoria Buckles-Niebur (Michael), Jim Smith (Sue), Roxanna Funk (Dale); sisters, Delores Phillips, Ethel Bell Hanslip, Lucy Carter (Dave); brothers, Ervin Rowland (Pat) and Donald Rowland (Betty); 10 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; a host of other family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00-11:00 a.m. with funeral service to begin at 11:00 a.m. Southside Christian Church 1919 South 10th Street in Council Bluffs. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Southside Christian Church.
