Rex E. Davis, age 99, passed away peacefully at Elm Crest Senior Living in Harlan on June 28, 2026.
He was born October 21, 1926, to the late Eddie and Edith (Davis) Davis in Boone, IA. Rex attended Thomas Jefferson High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. in the South Pacific during World War II. Rex held jobs as a lineman, barber and retired from Ready Mixed Concrete. After retirement he worked a short time at Harvey's Casino. Rex was a member of The United Church of Avoca. His favorite pastimes were bowling, cards, golfing and trips to the casino.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Davis (Swaney), whom he met at a Council Bluffs skating rink and later married on February 18, 1951; son, Scott Davis; grandson, Jim Davis; great grandson, Caleb Davis; grandson-in-law, Kris Bramman; siblings, Edward Davis, Leota Stidd, Dale Davis and Joan Davis.
Rex is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Craig & Ronda Davis; daughter and son-in-law, Deb & Larry Manz; brother, Dean Davis; sister and brother-in-law, Jean & Ken Swartout; sister-in-law, Bonnie Davis; brother-in-law, Duane Swaney; grandchildren Wendy (Mike) Jorgensern, Chad (Alison) Manz, Jason (Meredith) Manz, Jamie Bramman, Eric (Shawna) Manz, Jesse (Mariah) Davis, Kyle (Jill) Manz and Cody (Sabrina) Davis and 20 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson in the oven; nieces, nephews, and cousins; a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM - 11:00 PM at United Church of Avoca on Monday, July 06, 2026. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM at United Church of Avoca on Monday, July 6, 2026. Inurnment with military honors will be in the Shelby Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the Shelby Community Building. The family will direct memorials.
