Richard Spreng

Richard A. "Rick" Spreng, age 69, passed away peacefully at his home on December 6, 2025.He was born February 24, 1956, to the late Elmer and VaNetta (Quandt) Spreng in Denison, IA. Rick graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1974. Rick enjoyed his time on the family farm with bonfires and family gatherings.

Rick proudly served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Sperry and the USS Denver. His time in the Navy was during the Vietnam War. For a while he manned one of the ship's guns.

After the Navy he worked in many trades. Rick worked in the restaurant industry, in construction, as a nurse's aide, as a welder, and did lawn work (especially when he wanted away from the "women's" cooking projects).

Rick and Lucinda were united in marriage April 7, 1990. Their daughter Emmyann was born February 17, 1993, and passed the same day. He was a proud Godfather to Sophia McCoy and Cody Spreng.

One title Rick held was "taste tester". He would munch and nibble from any pot, pan, or platter. Some of his favorite foods were Red Hot Hot Dogs, lasagna, turkey and noodles, and cheesecake. He liked to eat at the Milwaukee Weiner House.

Rick was a lover of music. He liked a variety of bands AC/DC and Pink Floyd being favorites. If anyone wanted a concert buddy all you had to do was call him, he was sure to accept the invitation.

Many cats found favor with Rick. Cats loved him as well. His current house mates were Taz and Sprite.

Rick was a member of the local Senior Center and very much enjoyed the gym and swimming pool.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Emmyann Frances Spreng; brothers, Mike Spreng and Larry Spreng.

Rick is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lucinda Spreng; sister, Darlene O'Donnell; a host of other family and friends.

Viewing and visitation will be held from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Sunday, December 14, 2025. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date in the Hazel Dell Cemetery. The family will direct memorials.
