Robert "Bob" Bergantzel, age 79, passed away April 10, 2026.
Bob was born May 28, 1946, in Red Oak, Iowa, to Jess "Elmer" and Edith (Frink) Bergantzel. He spent more than 40 years working for Union Pacific Railroad, where he built a career defined by reliability and hard work.
Bob was married to Barbara (Walters) of Missouri Valley, Iowa, and together they raised three children. He enjoyed horseback riding, playing cards, photography, and spending time with friends. He had a natural ability to connect with people and was always willing to lend a hand to those around him.
Bob never met a stranger. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and make them feel like they had known him for years. If you did not know him as Bob, you likely knew him as "Crash."
Bob will be remembered for his work ethic, his kindness, and the relationships he built throughout his life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Albion Bergantzel; and step-father, Don Wirth.
Bob is survived by wife, Barbara; children, Todd (Vanessa) Bergantzel, Jim (Nancy) Bergantzel, Brooke (Thomas) Schmolke; brother, Roger (Harriet) Bergantzel; 8 grandchildren, Dakota (Jamez), Dallas (CJ), Tyler (Sally), Sebastian, Rick (Trish), Libby (Richard), Pepper, Neli; 11 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held 2:00 - 5:00 pm on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at the Hoy Kilnoski Reception Center (The Warehouse Event Venue - 1414 W. Broadway, Council Bluffs, IA). In lieu of flowers, the family will direct memorials in Bob's honor.
