Robert Edward "Bob" Juhl, 73, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away on December 2, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at his home. Born on December 9, 1951, in Harlan, Iowa, to Edward and RuthAnn Juhl. Bob lived a life filled with hard work, adventure, and devotion to his family and friends.
Bob graduated from AvoHa Community High School in Avoca, Iowa, in 1970. His passion for agriculture and learning led him to pursue further education at American Breeder Services in 1973 as an AI Technician and Sales Specialist. He continued his studies at Western Iowa Tech in 1977, focusing on agricultural courses, and later attended Metro Community College in 1995 for management and electronics.
In April 1971, Bob enlisted in the Navy and trained in San Diego, California. He was assigned to the USS Mauna Kea during the Vietnam War. Though his service was cut short due to his father's illness, Bob was proud of his time serving his country and received an honorable discharge to return home and assist with the family harvest.
On September 8, 1973 Bob married Bette Beermann in Denison, IA at Zion Lutheran Church. They had 4 children - Teena, Wade, Crystal, and Clayton.
Bob's career was as diverse as it was fulfilling. From 1972 to 1974, he worked as a feed mill operator, grain bin constructor, and trucker. He then joined Denison Seed Company before realizing his lifelong dream of farming from 1976 to 1984. On his farm, Bob managed a cow/calf herd along with hogs, sheep, poultry, and horses while growing corn, soybeans, small grains, and forage crops. His agricultural expertise extended into roles such as Farm Manager for Rafter H Ranch and various positions at International Nutrition in Omaha. Bob also served as a Waste Water Treatment Technician for the City of Council Bluffs before returning to International Nutrition as Production Coordinator until 1998. Bob finished his career at United Seeds in Omaha retiring after 18 years in March of 2017.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Bob cherished time spent outdoors and with his family. He took great pride in teaching his children how to fish and hunt-skills that brought countless memories of deer hunting trips and evenings spent cleaning and processing deer together. Camping trips out west were a family tradition; Bob's knack for packing their conversion van with everything needed for six people (and room for rocks collected along the way) became legendary. His love of travel extended across 21 states, with a post-graduation trip to Alaska with his Uncle John standing out as a cherished highlight.
Bob's green thumb was evident in his annual gardening efforts and canning projects. He also enjoyed frequent trips to Branson, Colorado and its surrounding areas with Bette by his side. Whether fishing on serene waters or exploring new destinations with loved ones, Bob found joy in life's simple pleasures.
Known for his warm personality and gift of gab, Bob could strike up a conversation with anyone he met. His "Midwestern Goodbye" became a hallmark of his character-always taking time to connect with others deeply. Even when dementia took away his voice later in life, Bob's radiant smile, sparkling eyes, and infectious laugh continued to light up every room he entered.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife Bette of Council Bluffs; daughter Teena (Christoph Mosel) of Pukwana, South Dakota; son Wade Juhl (Patty) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter Crystal (Chris Nixt) of Council Bluffs, Iowa; son Clayton Juhl (fiancée Nicole Lewis) of Omaha, Nebraska; nine grandchildren: Jonah Mosel (Faith) of Omaha; Toree and Chloe Mosel of Pukwana; Micah, Tristan, and Killian Juhl of Cedar Rapids; Grace, Tayah, and Katrina Nixt of Council Bluffs; one great-granddaughter Viola Mosel; two sisters: Linda Sorensen; Betty (David Schnepel); along with extended family members and countless friends who were touched by his kindness.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and RuthAnn Juhl; grandparents; aunts and uncles; as well as some cousins, classmates, and friends.
Bob's legacy is one of love for family, dedication to hard work, and an enduring appreciation for the beauty of nature. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
