Ruth Wasson, age 102, passed away August 13, 2026. She was born July 24, 1924 at the farm home near Siam, Iowa to Ora G. and Phoebe (Harper) Clayton. She graduated from New Market High School in 1941 and attended N.W. Missouri Univ. Ruth met her future husband, George Wasson, while employed with Iowa Power & Light in Clarinda, Iowa. They were married August 30, 1952 at the First United Methodist Church. They were blessed with three children, Marta, Dennis and Larry. She was last employed with Iowa Dept. of Rehabilitation and assigned to the IWCC campus. Ruth spent a number of years as a volunteer at Jennie Edmundson Hospital and the Senior Center. Ruth was a faithful and longtime member of Salem United Methodist Church, the Adult Sunday School Class, the Ruth Circle, and the senior group "Trail Blazers." She was a member of Risen Son Golden Chorale. Ruth enjoyed traveling with tour groups, doing puzzles, traveling to see her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching Royal Baseball and golf.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, George Wasson; sisters, Frances Cogdell; half-sisters Dessie Redenbaugh and Nannie Young; half-brothers Ralph Clayton and Floyd Clayton.
Ruth is survived by her children, Marta Wasson-Davis (Darrell),Hamill, SD; Dennis Wasson, Omaha, NE; Larry Wasson (Carolyn), Tempe, AZ; and step-son, George L. Wasson (Barbara), Pueblo West, CO; granddaughters Melissa Kwilosz, Gilbert, AZ; Merideth Gradowski (Kevin), Tempe, AZ; great-grandchildren Catherine, Andrew, Luke, and Claire; nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation with refreshments will be held from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Monday, August 17, 2026.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Monday, August 17, 2026. Final Resting Place at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Salem United Methodist Church.
