Sharyl Lew Osborne

Sharyl Lew Terry Osborne was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Merle and Blanche Terry on December 29, 1934. She lived most of her younger years in Crescent, Iowa. When she was in high school, the family moved near Walnut, Iowa, where she graduated in 1953.

Sharyl continued her education at Peru State College where she met Howard (Hod) Osborne in the Spring of 1954. They were married on December 29th of the same year. When you know, you know!!! Sharyl received her elementary education certificate the following May.

During the early years of their marriage, Sharyl and Hod traveled the southern states for Hod's job. They truly enjoyed getting to see so much of the country. In October of 1965, they decided it was time to settle in Crescent on the family property. Sadly, an accident at work took Hod's life in May of 1966. Terry was born in September of that year.

Sharly raised their four kids in Crescent. She was involved in First Christian Church, PTA, raising money for Crescent's fire department, 4-H, ceramics, Royal Neighbors and later the Red Hats. During this time, she also went back to school to get her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and later her Masters Degree. She taught at Lewis and Clark Elementary School in Council Bluffs for 16 years before retiring at age 64.

After retirement Sharyl enjoyed traveling with friends and family. She visited Alaska, Europe, Hawaii, New York and the Holy Land, as well as taking many road trips. She spent her later years enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many women's groups, which kept her busy. Sharyl will be fondly remembered for her quick wit, her love of telling stories about her travels and family and her extensive doll collection.

Sharyl was preceded in death by her husband Howard; parents, Merle and Blanche Terry; brothers Darrell and Ronald Terry. She is survived by her children Bradley Osborne (Gale); Jeffrey Osborne (Teresa); Becky Rieck (Russell Freyer); Terry Oldenburg (William); grandchildren, Sarah Wright (Jeff Johnson); Benjamin Osborne; Cameron Osborne (Bradee); Rachel Osborne (James Nelson); Jordan Osborne; Stephen Rieck (Caitlin Studley): Daniel Rieck; Rebekah Osborne; Zachary Rieck; great-grandchildren, Ezekiel, Audrey, Alexander, Mikah, Elijah, Margot, Lorelei and Braxton; step great-grandchildren, Alex, Gracie, Lauren, Max and Liam; Nephews Tom Osborne and John Osborne (Cyndi), Nieces Crescent Terry, Angela Terry and Roni Terry.

The family wishes to thank all the caregivers at Visiting Angels and the St. Croix Hospice staff that took such good care of her and made completing the journey more comfortable for Sharyl.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Saturday, October 10, 2026. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM.

Memorials are suggested to the Crescent Volunteer Fire Department.
