Sherry DeVoll, age 59, passed away October 23, 2022.
She was born on September 1, 1963, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Omaha. She spent the first three weeks of her life in the premature ward. Sherry attended Hartman Grade School and then Nathan Hale Junior High. The family moved to Council Bluffs, and she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. Sherry was in Girl Scouts from the 2nd to 12th grade. In the summer of 1979, Sherry and seven other scouts took a trip through Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming taking in the sites. They then spent a week at the Girl Scout National Camp, which was sponsored through a Reader's Digest Grant. They had a great time riding horses, and digging to find arrow heads, and then learning how to register the finds. They also enjoyed hiking in the mountains. She belonged to a Explorer Post that went camping every month.
Sherry attended Iowa Western Community College and earned an associate degree in accounting. She was a tax preparer at Home InStead and Jackson Hewitt.
Sherry is survived by her daughter, Chantel Opal (Greg Jensen); grandchildren, Kody Radice, Kelsie Opal, and Erik Opal; mother, Cathy DeVoll; brothers, John DeVoll and James DeVoll; sisters, Robin Sonier (Mark) and Colleen Slater (Paul); aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sherry was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer in March of 2022 and gave it a tough fight.
