Steve & Julie Starkey

April 7, 1970 — June 18, 2023

Steven and Julia (McCord) Starkey passed away, as the result of an accident while riding their motorcycle on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at the age of 53.

Steven Theodore Starkey was born to Donald and Bonnie (Sallinger) Starkey on April 7, 1970 in Grand Island, NE. He was the youngest of three.

Julia Kathleen (McCord) Starkey was born to Stephen and Janette McCord on August 4, 1970 in Council Bluffs. Julie was an only child.

Steve and Julie each had a son in previous marriages, before life changes would bring Steve to Council Bluffs. He was working at the Jiffy Lube next to the Taco Johns that Julie worked at when they caught each others' eyes. They were married June 17, 1995 and had two daughters together. They recently celebrated their 28th Anniversary by renewing their vows in the Garden of the Gods in Colorado.

Steve had a rough and tough exterior, but had the heart of a teddy bear. He had a passion for motorcycles, tattoos and antiques. Steve served 15 years in the Iowa National Guard before retiring in February 2021. He continued to work as an Electrician at Superior Lighting, Inc., in Omaha.

Julie loved singing, dancing, being with friends, and capturing every special moment she could through photography. She enjoyed being a paraeducator at Roosevelt Elementary and spent her summers soaking up the sun with her parents and grandchildren in the pool.

They were the life of the party, loved fiercely and would drop everything to help anyone in need.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Donald Starkey. He is survived by his mother, Bonnie (Danny) Sallinger; his siblings; his son, Andrew Starkey; his daughters, Ashley (Brad) Malvin and Rachel (Kyle) Montgomery; and four grandchildren.

Julie is survived by her parents, Stephen and Janette McCord; her son, Jonathan Walker; her daughters, Ashley (Brad) Malvin and Rachel (Kyle) Montgomery; and seven grandchildren.

They are mutually survived by many, many other relatives and friends.
