Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Terri Lynn Huebner
Celebration of Life
Sunday, July 26, 2026 1230 - 3:00 pm
Manawa State Park Pavilion #7
Council Bluffs, Iowa
On June 19th, we said goodbye to a remarkable soul, Terri Lynn Huebner. Terri was a woman whose very essence was an outpouring of profound love. She walked through this world with a rare blend of fierce devotion, gentle grace, and an unbreakable spirit that deeply impacted everyone fortunate enough to know her. Like the grand landscapes of the National Parks she so dearly loved, Terri was a beautiful convergence of immovable strength and endless, flowing life.
A Lifetime of Love and Devotion
For 42 years, Terri shared her life, her heart, and her journey with Joe Thomas. Together, they endured life's changing seasons, fueled by love, laughter, and endless affection for Louie, their King Charles Spaniel.
Terri's love extended to her family. She was fierce and intensely loyal to her siblings, always serving as the foundation of support. As the oldest daughter to Jack and Karen Hueber, she spent her entire life loving her brother, Steve, and sister, Joni. Her joy, however, was the children in her family, especially her nieces and nephews: Sarah, Stevie, Shana, Amanda, and Jared.
Terri's superpower was to make childhood magical, transforming holidays into unforgettable memories. She was the architect of joy. She famously hosted holiday parties. The Easter Egg Hunts, Fourth of July, and Halloween House were famous. Her home became a place of pure wonder. Every gathering was an event, anchored by her famous premier parties where she made the children feel like the absolute center of the universe.
She championed children, loved them to the moon, and left their hearts marked so they would always remember. Her mission was to create tradition. Her character was deeply rooted; she was proudly shaped by her parents and beautifully formed in the image of her grandparents, carrying their values, strength, and legacy into everything she did.
Shaped by Mountains and Water
Terri possessed a deep love for travel, finding sanctuary in the great outdoors. She was captivated by the beauty of Yellowstone, a place that mirrored her soul. She once said, "If I had gone to college, I would have been a forest ranger."
To Terri, nature was not just a destination, but a reflection of life itself:
The Mountains: She was drawn to the towering peaks that touched the sky. Like those ancient mountains, Terri possessed an unyielding, majestic strength. She stood tall against the highest winds and the harshest storms, grounded by deep roots and an unshakeable foundation.
The Water: She found peace in the rivers, lakes, and thermal springs. She was like water-beautiful, adaptable, yet powerful enough to carve through solid rock. She moved through life with grace, and her laughter energized the lives of others, nourishing everyone in her path.
Whether gazing at a mountain summit or listening to the steady rush of a river, Terri was at home in the wild, always seeking the next horizon.
An Unmatched Will to Live
Terri was a warrior in the truest, most awe-inspiring sense. For 23 years, she fought against all odds in a courageous battle with cancer. Where others might have grown weary, Terri's will to live remained as permanent as a mountain ridge. She faced every challenge with a fierce, defiant optimism and an extraordinary appetite for life, refusing to let the current wash her away.
She also fought her battle with style and glamour. Terri refused to let her illness dim her persona. She turned her journey into a runway of resilience. Armed with an enviable collection of designer purses and fabulous hats that elegantly masked the effects of chemotherapy, she wore her strength like high fashion. Her impeccable style wasn't just about looking beautiful-it was her armor, a vibrant and defiant statement to the world that she would never lose her grace or her identity to her disease.
Even as she began to transition from this world, her spirit remained unbroken, with stubbornness and dignity. Leaving us with the same strength and elegance that defined her. Her final words were a powerful testament to her beautiful soul:
"I want to live."
And she does. Terri's declaration was not just a final wish for more time but a promise that her spirit would never truly leave us. She continues to live in every heart she touched, in every memory of her radiant smile beneath a fabulous hat, and in the enduring, unbreakable love she shared with Joe and her family.
Just as a river's water continues to flow forward long after it passes its source, Terri's vibrant essence lives on. We see her in the majestic permanence of the mountains she loved, and we feel her presence in the fluid grace of the waters she explored. She lives on through us-in the way we choose to stand tall against our own storms, the way we show up for our families, and the way we embrace life with the very same fierce, unforgettable joy she possessed.
Rest in Strength and Grace
Terri did not let her illness define her; instead, she defined what it means to fight, to love, and to endure. While our hearts are heavy with her passing, we take comfort in knowing that her pain is over. Her legacy of love, loyalty, and unmatched resilience will live on in each of us forever.
The mountain has met the sky, and the river has finally found the sea. Rest in peace, Terri Lynn. Your strength will continue to guide us, and your love will never fade.
"Instead of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family to be distributed to causes close to Terri's heart."
