Willard "Junior" Piercy, age 90, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026. He was born on January 22, 1936, in Decatur County, Iowa, to Willard and Ruth (Miller) Piercy.
Junior dedicated 26 years to the United States Postal Service, including nine years riding the mail train between Chicago and Omaha, a unique chapter of his career that he always remembered with pride.
Junior served as County Chairman and spent 35 years working alongside the Pony Express Riders, helping raise funds for Easter Seals Camp Sunnyside in Des Moines. He also proudly participated as an outrider during the Iowa Side Trail Ride for the River City Roundup, combining his love of horses with his passion for giving back.
Horses were one of Junior's greatest joys. He spent many years raising, showing, and caring for them, creating countless memories both in and out of the arena. In later years, he found happiness in camping and birdwatching, often planning trips specifically to visit the best locations to spot different species of birds. He appreciated the beauty and peace found in nature and enjoyed sharing those experiences with others.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Ruby King, Roberta Bradway, Joyce Hoffman, and Ronald Piercy.
Junior is survived by his wife, Judy Piercy; daughter, Teresa (Jim) Charter; son, Ricky (Kelley) Piercy; grandchildren, Kayla Robertson (Nathan) and Sarah Gleichman; step-grandchildren, Ashley Durand, Amber Durand (Wesley), Jacob Durand (Angela), and Bobby (Kaleigh) Durand; 18 great grandchildren; sister, JoAnn Gray; nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.
