William Stanley (Bill) Porter, age 78, passed away in Omaha, on October 22, 2021 after a short illness. He was born March 12, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah to William (Dwight) Porter and Lucille (Hays) Porter. He moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa when he was five years old. Bill was preceded in death by his son, Stan William Porter, his parents, infant sister Rebecca and his mother-in-law, Myrtle Rhoten, who loved him dearly. Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jackie (Rhoten) Porter, brothers, Larry Porter (Ruth), Mike Porter (Laura), and Tim Porter (Kay), and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill met Jackie, in the summer of 1958 and they were married in 1964. In 1966, he went into the U.S. Army and was an artillery surveyor in A Battery, 41st Artillery, of the Pershing Missile Unit in Schwabisch Gmund, Germany, where the Pershing Missiles were aimed at Viet Nam. Jackie joined him in Germany.
Bill was a 1961 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, Council Bluffs Iowa, where he participated in baseball, football and basketball. Bill attended The University of Nebraska (Omaha) for one year after high school. Bill earned a Computer Programming degree from Iowa Western Community College. He worked many of his younger years in construction. He then worked at many Title Insurance Companies in Council Bluffs, IA and Omaha, NE as a commercial title searcher. He retired in 2008. Bill was a Christian and loved the Lord and studying the Bible, as he was taught by his Father and Mother as he grew up. He told his doctors that he was anxious to meet his Creator.
There will be an Honor Guard Ceremony at the time of burial at Garner Cemetery on Friday, November 05, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.
